CEDAM is partnering with the Detroit Revitalization Fellows, the State of Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification and Michigan Central to launch the Michigan (MI) Mobility Fellows Program.

The MI Mobility Fellows Program is a highly selective 15-month fellowship that attracts talent from all over the country to gain real-world experience in transportation planning and mobility innovation. This fellowship will offer participants two unique career tracks that will expose them to the public and private sectors to advance and grow mobility innovation in the State of Michigan.

The MI Mobility Fellows is launching its initial cohort this year. Each track will host five fellows from October 2024 – December 2025.


Host Sites

CEDAM is hiring five fellows to work on the Transportation and Mobility Planning track with host sites across Michigan.

CEDAM is also hiring five fellows to work on the Mobility x Society Innovators track with host sites located primarily in Southeastern MI.

Qualifications

The appropriate candidate will have a strong interest and/or background in community economic development, transportation, mobility, urban planning, mobility management, electric vehicles, and future mobility or a combination of such interests. The appropriate candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, the ability to work within a team or as an individual, and be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, and other related software. Fellows are required to work the standard office hours.


The following are required of all fellows:

  • A recent STEM graduate within two years of graduation (either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)
  • OR relevant education experience (coursework, capstone, etc.) in the technology, transit, mobility and related field
  • Demonstrated experience (paid or volunteer) with transportation, mobility, public transit, electric vehicles and related fields
  • 15 month commitment
  • Commitment to public service
  • Understanding of transportation equity
  • Commitment to advancing mobility innovation
  • Understanding of applying societal benefit to mobility technologies.

Scope of Work

Fellows will complete projects that vary by host site but could include:

  • Addressing transportation equity
  • Working with mobility and transportation professionals to tackle mobility challenges
  • Incorporating current or emerging technologies into mobility and public transit
  • Supporting the growth and development of early-stage companies

Description / Skills:

  • Serve as a liaison between technical service providers and brand clients, ensuring seamless communication and understanding of technical requirements.
  • Provide expert technical support and guidance to brands during the manufacturing and assembly process.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to address and resolve technical issues related to product development and deployment.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of technical standards and quality control measures for products.
  • Conduct regular reviews with brands to ensure their needs are met and to identify opportunities for technical improvements and innovation.
  • Assist in the development and integration of new technical features on the platform, enhancing the overall user experience.
  • Utilize engineering experience to offer practical solutions and continuous improvements to current processes.
