Position Title: Community Transportation Integration Coordinator

Position Description (max 300 words):

At the direction of InvestUP and in a collaborative effort with many regional leaders, organizations and non-profits, the Community Transportation Integration Coordinator (The Coordinator) will improve transportation logistics and integrate new mobility strategies in the region to maximize connectivity between the Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport and the surrounding communities. The Coordinator will evaluate existing reports and studies to determine and assist entities in implementing logistics strategies that provide for greater accessibility and connectivity to rural communities and the general traveling public.

The Coordinator will consider recent data, reports and studies providing guidance on future strategies to strengthen the mobile connectivity of our rural communities.

Specifically, but not exclusively, the Coordinator will identify where and how broader accessibility is achieved for a variety of travelers into and out of the region including:

  • The limited mobility traveling public; senior citizens/residents, military veterans and individuals with impediments, including surrounding communities with a significant population of disadvantaged residents to provide better and more enhanced accommodations for ground travel throughout the region.
  • The business professionals traveling in and out of the region; suppliers, customers, potential business customers, etc. establishing more convenient, efficient and accessible ground transportation options from Sawyer Airport into the surrounding communities and back to the airport.
  • The EV travelers and car rental companies in need of utilizing EV charging stations and navigation in the surrounding communities. Including mapping out where strengths and weaknesses exist, identifying needs and resources to help resolve barriers to full EV accessibility.

The Coordinator may periodically be assigned to smaller, more targeted community mobility enhancement projects in the region as needed; school bussing efficiencies and motorized trail network connectivity for example. For mobility and transportation activities identified, the Coordinator will research and in some cases apply for and facilitate grant or funding resources.
